Course description:
This course explores the osteopathic concepts of the diaphragms of the body and their role in maintaining balance, influencing mobility and fluid dynamics alongside their functions.
Clear consideration of the inter-relationship of the major diaphragmatic regions from head to toe will be discussed, with methods provided for examination and treatment.
Particular emphasis will be made on developing your palpatory awareness and reciprocal motion between structures to aid overall function.
Transition and integration of different models and concepts will be key to developing a broader osteopathic approach.
Learning outcomes:
- Understanding the structure, boundaries and functions of the diaphragms.
- Developing palpatory skills to aid assessment of these structures.
- Identifying common patterns of restriction or changes in whole body system dynamics.
- Understanding key conditions and ways that the diaphragms can be affected and influenced.
- Develop an integrated osteopathic approach that considers the inter-related nature of the body’s diaphragms and their contribution to health.
- Able to apply an array of indirect and direct osteopathic techniques to treat these structures.

- Introduction to osteopathic principles and original A.T.Still models for Osteopathy.
- Anatomy of diaphragms and soft tissue connections.
- Technique related to treat each diaphragm.
- Relative case histories.
- Role of palpation in osteopathic assessment.
Teaching and learning methods – short PowerPoints/ lectures, demonstrations, hands on practice, peer learning, feedback and case based discussions.
Certificate of completion with CPD hours provided after completion of the course.
